If there's one moment in the year to start (or restart) laser hair removal, it's September. From September to December you get the 4 best months on the calendar: less direct sun, more covered skin, stable temperatures and — most importantly — enough time ahead to complete the full cycle before next summer. At Esencia Estética, in Campo Real (25 min from central Madrid), it's the busiest laser season, and not by chance. Here's how we build the schedule, what happens each month, what each area costs and which contraindications matter.
Why September–December is optimal
Laser hair removal works on the contrast between the hair (which absorbs light) and the skin (which should ideally be pale and free of extra melanin). The whole protocol makes sense when:
- There's no active tan: tanned skin raises the risk of burns and lowers efficacy.
- No sun exposure after each session: minimum 15–30 days without direct sun on the treated area.
- There's time margin: 6–8 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart takes 6–10 months in total. Start in September and you finish before summer.
All of that fits September–December perfectly: clothing covers the treated areas, the sun is milder, and there's real margin until next May–June.
The classic mistake: trying to start laser in April "to be ready for the beach". It doesn't work. By July you've had 2–3 sessions (hair still comes back) and now you can't continue because sun season is on. September gives you the margin to reach summer with 5–6 sessions done — which is where real results actually show.
The month-by-month calendar
| Month | Phase | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| September | Start | Consultation + patch test. First priming session. Energy calibrated to your skin phototype. |
| October | Intensive session | Second session (4–6 weeks later). Hair starts growing finer and slower. |
| November | Intensive session | Third session. Visible reduction. Larger areas (legs, back) tolerate stepping the energy up. |
| December | Maintenance / fourth | Fourth session before Christmas. Good time to gift a bono/pack to a partner or daughter. |
| January–February | Continue | Fifth and sixth session. Intervals can stretch to 6–8 weeks. |
| March–April | Cycle almost closed | Touch-up session. You reach May with solid results. |
That calendar is the baseline. Depending on your phototype, the area and your personal hair cycle, we adjust the intervals. What's beautiful about starting in September is that in the worst case you reach June with 6 well-spaced sessions — the point at which most people see a 70–80% reduction of treated hair.
Prices per area
We work with a professional diode laser at Esencia. These are indicative prices per session (packs and blocks come cheaper — just ask on WhatsApp):
Six-session packs (the full cycle) come at a discount over the single-session price. I always recommend booking the pack: it's the commitment that produces the real result.
The 3 areas most in demand in autumn
1. Underarms
Hands down the most requested area. Quick sessions (5–10 minutes), minimal discomfort, very visible result from the 3rd session onward. Almost everyone starts here.
2. Legs (half or full)
The area most people ruin by starting late. September is its moment. With 5–6 well-run sessions you reach spring with essentially no visible hair.
3. Bikini and groin line
The second most requested area after underarms. Easy to run in winter because it doesn't interfere with beach/pool. Real reduction from the 4th session.
Important note on sun: even in autumn, occasional SPF isn't enough. After each laser session apply SPF 50 on the treated area for at least 15 days and avoid direct exposure. In Campo Real, winter sun also burns.
Contraindications and when not to have laser
- Active tan: wait 3–4 weeks after last strong exposure.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: we pause treatment as a precaution (no evidence of harm, but we don't take chances).
- Photosensitising medication: some antibiotics, oral retinoids, certain antidepressants. We always review this at the consultation.
- Tattoos on the area: we mask them (laser can't pass over ink).
- Active herpes or infections in the area: we wait for it to resolve.
The consultation is free and no-commitment. We look at your skin type, the area, and give you a schedule and exact quote for the full cycle. Large areas have booking priority in September.
