If you're reading this, you've probably already tried creams, oils, rollers and a thousand products that promised to end cellulite. And here you are. The truth is that cellulite is far more than a superficial cosmetic issue, and that's why it can't be resolved with superficial solutions. Let's walk through what it really is, what causes it, and how it can genuinely improve — from our salon 25 minutes from central Madrid.

What cellulite really is

Cellulite (or gynoid lipodystrophy, its technical name) is not accumulated fat. It's a structural alteration of the subcutaneous tissue that affects over 85% of women from puberty onwards, regardless of weight or body type.

What we see on the surface — that orange-peel texture — is the visible result of what happens in the deeper layers of the skin: fat cells (adipocytes) become enlarged and push up against the connective tissue septa around them, while local microcirculation deteriorates and interstitial fluid accumulates.

The cream myth: Anti-cellulite creams can temporarily improve the skin's appearance and add hydration, but they don't reach the depth where the real problem lives. Cellulite is an alteration of the subcutaneous tissue: no active applied on top penetrates deeply enough to change it significantly without professional help.

The three types of cellulite and why distinguishing them matters

I
Soft
Only visible when pinched. Skin still has good tone. The best time to act: results come faster.
II
Compact
Visible when standing. Orange-peel look without pinching. More fibrotic tissue. Requires consistency and a combined protocol.
III
Oedematous
With fluid retention and tenderness on touch. Important to combine with lymphatic drainage.

Knowing which grade you have is the first step to designing a protocol that really works. That's why at Esencia Estética we always start with a free personalised consultation before proposing any treatment.

Why it appears: the triggers

Cellulite has a strong hormonal component — oestrogen favours fluid retention and adipocyte enlargement — but there are other factors that accelerate or worsen it:

How we tackle cellulite at Esencia Estética

There is no single treatment that solves cellulite on its own. What works is a combined protocol that acts simultaneously on the different factors that keep it going: microcirculation, lymphatic retention, fibrotic tissue and adipocytes.

Full anti-cellulite protocol
1
Initial consultation and area diagnosis
We assess the type of cellulite, circulation status and priority areas to design a personalised protocol. Every body is different.
2
Manual body-contouring massage with specific technique
Kneading, rolling and deep-pressure moves to break down fibrotic tissue, boost circulation and mobilise localised fat deposits.
3
Technology: vacuum therapy or pressotherapy
Vacuum therapy (mechanical suction cups) works in deeper layers the hand can't reach. Pressotherapy is highly effective at activating venous and lymphatic return.
4
Closing lymphatic drainage
Essential to eliminate the waste we've mobilised during the massage and technology. Without this step, part of the work is lost.
5
Application of specific actives
Body-contouring and firming creams or oils with caffeine, retinol, ivy extract or other actives suited to each client's profile.

Results you can expect

Reduced orange-peel look
Texture visibly improves after 4–6 sessions. Skin becomes more even and smoother in appearance.
Loss of centimetres
The combination of drainage and body-contouring massage delivers measurable losses in thigh and abdomen circumference.
Firmer, tighter skin
Deep massage stimulates collagen production in the area. The skin regains tone.
Less fluid retention
The lymphatic component of the protocol clears the oedema that worsens oedematous cellulite.
Better local circulation
The treated area improves oxygenation and cellular nutrition, which slows down cellulite reappearing.
Greater general well-being
Many clients report feeling lighter, with less tired legs and more comfortable in their own body.
Cellulite doesn't disappear overnight. But with consistency and the right protocol, the changes are real and measurable. The most important thing is to start — and not to give up after two sessions.

How many sessions and how often?

For visible results we recommend a minimum cycle of 8–10 sessions, ideally two per week for the first four weeks and one a week for the rest. The protocol adapts to each person's response.

Summer is always when we worry most about cellulite, but the best time to start is now, whatever the season. Results take 4–6 weeks to settle in: if you wait until the warm weather arrives, you're already late.

Boost your results at home: plenty of water, moderate cardiovascular exercise (walking, swimming or cycling are perfect), dry brushing before showering to activate circulation, and reducing salt and sugar. The professional treatment does 80% of the work; your habits do the rest.
