Some skins look dry no matter how much you hydrate them. You apply cream, you use a serum, you drink water... and two hours later your skin still feels tight, dull and lifeless. If that sounds familiar, the problem isn't your cream: it's that the hydration isn't reaching where it needs to go. That's what facial mesotherapy is for. Here's how it works, from our salon in Campo Real, 25 minutes from central Madrid.

What mesotherapy is, and how it differs from just applying a cream

Mesotherapy is a technique that delivers cosmetic actives directly into the middle layers of the skin — the dermis — where the fibroblasts live. Fibroblasts are the cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin and the skin's own hyaluronic acid.

The great limitation of any cosmetic applied on the surface is the epidermal barrier: the skin is designed to keep external substances out, and it's very good at it. Absorption of a topically applied active hovers around 5-10% at best. With electroporation mesotherapy, that figure rises to 70-80%. It's not marketing — it's cell-membrane physics.

Needle-free mesotherapy: the technique we use at Esencia Estética is completely painless. We use electroporation — low-intensity electrical pulses that temporarily open the channels in the cell membrane — to drive the actives deeper. No injections, no bruising, no downtime.

The actives we use, and what each one does

One of mesotherapy's biggest advantages is that the cocktail of actives is personalised to each client's goal. These are the main ones we work with:

💧
Hyaluronic Acid
Deep, immediate hydration. Plumps from the inside, adds volume and softens the look of fine lines.
Vitamin C
Brightens, evens tone and slows melanin production. Ideal for dark spots and dull skin.
🔬
Peptides
Signals that push fibroblasts to produce more collagen. Progressive firming and anti-ageing effect.
🌿
Growth Factor
Proteins that speed up cellular regeneration. Particularly effective on mature skin or after procedures.
🍒
Tranexamic Acid
For dark spots and stubborn hyperpigmentation. Inhibits melanin synthesis from the deeper layers.
Stabilised Retinol
Accelerated cell turnover, wrinkle reduction and improved texture without the irritation of topical retinol.

What a session looks like, step by step

Facial Mesotherapy session — 45-60 minutes
1
Diagnosis and cocktail selection
Before we begin, we assess the state of your skin, the main goal (hydration, radiance, anti-ageing, dark spots) and pick the most suitable combination of actives.
2
Deep cleanse
The skin has to be perfectly clean for electroporation to be effective. We remove cosmetic residue, sebum and dead cells.
3
Applying the active cocktail
We spread the personalised serum or cocktail across the face. This is the layer we then drive into the skin via electroporation.
4
Electroporation: driving the actives in
The applicator emits gentle electrical pulses that temporarily open the pores of the cell membranes. It feels like a light tingle, completely painless. The actives penetrate in minutes.
5
Nourishing mask and SPF
We finish with a soothing, nourishing mask and apply SPF 50 before you leave. The skin is especially receptive to care in this moment.

What you'll notice from the first session

Instant, lasting hydration
The skin looks visibly more hydrated, softer to the touch and with a plumper appearance from day one.
Real luminosity
Not the artificial shine of a highlighter: it's the glow of well-oxygenated, well-hydrated skin from within.
Refined pores
As dermal hydration improves, the skin looks more even and pores appear less dilated.
Softer fine lines
Dehydration lines (those thin creases on cheekbones and around the eyes) improve noticeably.
More even tone
With Vitamin C or tranexamic acid cocktails, skin tone evens out progressively session by session.
The perfect base for make-up
Deeply hydrated skin holds make-up better and keeps it fresh for longer.
When a client tells me she doesn't need to wear as much foundation since she started mesotherapy, I know we've done our job. That's the difference between treating the skin and covering it up.

Which skin types benefit most?

Mesotherapy works for practically all skin types, but some profiles benefit especially:

A winning combination: electroporation mesotherapy is the perfect partner for Dermapen. Dermapen creates the microchannels; electroporation drives the actives through them and pushes them deeper. Together they achieve a penetration neither can reach on its own. If you want maximum results, ask me about the combined protocol.

How often should I do it?

For optimal, lasting results, the ideal is an initial cycle of 4-6 sessions every two weeks, followed by monthly maintenance. Many clients build it into their routine: one session a month, and skin at its best year-round.

It's also excellent as a one-off treatment before an important event: wedding, meeting, trip... The skin looks noticeably brighter and more rested within 48-72 hours.

Post-treatment: avoid direct sun for the following 48 hours and keep SPF on. No acids (AHA, BHA) or retinol for 24 hours after. The skin is in maximum-absorption mode: whatever you apply will penetrate more than usual.
