What it is
The lymphatic system also needs help
Your body has two circulatory systems: the blood system (with its own pump — the heart) and the lymphatic system, which moves lymph — a fluid that clears waste, transports immune cells and flushes toxins. The key difference is that the lymphatic system has no pump: it depends on muscle movement, deep breathing and external pressure to circulate.
When you sit for hours at work, live a sedentary life, have had surgery, eat too much salt, fly long-haul, are pregnant or spend all day on your feet, the lymphatic system gets sluggish. The consequences: swollen legs, tight ankles, heavy sensation, dark circles, distended abdomen, general fluid retention.
Lymphatic drainage is the technique that unblocks that system. We do it through two complementary routes: with the hands (manual) and with sequential air pressure (pressotherapy). Each has its place — and together they work better than either alone.
The two techniques
Manual or pressotherapy: when to use each
It isn't "one better than the other". It's "one for each thing — and better together than apart." Here is the honest difference:
Professional hands
The therapist works with precise manoeuvres following the lymphatic pathways: soft, directed strokes with calibrated pressure. Adaptable to any area and to partial contraindications.
- Ideal for post-surgery (aesthetic surgery, mastectomy, abdominoplasty)
- Facial drainage (dark circles, puffiness, decongestion)
- Delicate skin or mild varicose veins
- Pregnancy (with a specific protocol)
- Cases where pressotherapy is contraindicated
Sequential air drainage
A boot or trouser suit with air chambers that inflate in a rising sequence, "squeezing" the leg from ankle up to thigh. Effective for larger volumes in legs and abdomen.
- Chronically tired, heavy legs
- Fluid retention in the lower limbs
- Pre-event treatments (beach-body ready)
- Maintenance between manual drainage sessions
- Combined with slimming treatments such as Sculp Body
What works best in most cases: start the session with manual drainage (10–15 min on key areas and lymph nodes) and finish with pressotherapy (30–40 min). The combination delivers far more than either technique on its own.
Who it's for
Most requested in the treatment room
These are the situations we get called about most:
Tired legs
Heavy feeling at the end of the day, swollen ankles, warmth or burning in the legs. Long hours standing or seated at work.
Fluid retention
General swelling that comes and goes, especially pre-menstrual. Rings that feel tight, clothes that fit more snugly than usual.
Post-surgery
After aesthetic surgery (liposuction, abdominoplasty) or other operations. Reduces inflammation and improves healing. Always after medical clearance.
Pre-event
Wedding, holiday, photo shoot. 2–3 sessions the week before make a visible difference in silhouette and legs.
Cellulite
As part of a combined plan with wood therapy and slimming treatments. Drainage clears retention so the rest of the plan works better.
Post-workout recovery
After intense training, running or competitions. Speeds up recovery and reduces muscle soreness.
Recommended frequency
How many sessions, how often
This is a guide. The exact plan is tailored after your consultation:
"Drainage doesn't burn fat — it deflates. And well-done deflation changes the silhouette more than most people imagine."
Testimonials
What our clients say
"I sit down 8 hours a day at work. I come every week. It's the only thing that takes away the tight-ankle feeling when I get home."
"I did pressotherapy and drainage 2 weeks before my wedding. The difference in a swimsuit was huge. I'd do it again without hesitation."
"After my liposuction, manual drainage was key. Carmen knows what she's doing. Very quick healing and very little inflammation."
Frequently asked questions about lymphatic drainage
What is the difference between manual drainage and pressotherapy? +
Manual lymphatic drainage is performed by the therapist's hands, following the pathways of the lymphatic system with precise, adaptable strokes — ideal for delicate cases (post-surgery, sensitive skin, facial fluid retention). Pressotherapy is sequential mechanical drainage using an air-chamber suit — more effective for large volumes in legs and abdomen. Combining both is what works best in most cases.
When will I see results? +
From the very first session: lighter legs, less swelling around ankles and abdomen and a real sense of relief. For deeper results we recommend a plan of 6–10 sessions (twice a week at the start) plus monthly maintenance.
Does lymphatic drainage make you lose weight? +
Drainage doesn't burn fat — it flushes retained fluid. You lose centimetres because you deflate, not because you burn fat. Combined with slimming treatments such as Sculp Body, body peels and home care (hydration, low-salt diet, exercise), you do see real changes in silhouette.
Are there any contraindications? +
Yes — worth knowing: active venous thrombosis, severe cardiac or kidney failure, acute infections in the area, fever, active cancer (consult your oncologist), pregnancy (manual drainage is safe with a specific protocol; pressotherapy generally is not). This is why we always start with a personalised assessment.
Can it help with post-surgery recovery? +
Yes. Manual lymphatic drainage is one of the most recommended treatments after aesthetic surgery (liposuction, abdominoplasty, mastectomy) and other operations to reduce inflammation and improve healing. We work with a specific post-surgical protocol, always after medical clearance.
How much does a session cost? +
Fixed rates per single session or per package. Packages of 6–10 sessions offer the lowest per-session price and are the best-value way to start. Ask us on WhatsApp with no obligation.
How often do you recommend? +
It depends on your goal. To relieve and keep legs light: 1 session a week. For heavy fluid retention or beach-body ready: 2 per week for 3–4 weeks. For steady maintenance: 1 every 15–30 days depending on your response.
